Two proudly Malaysian brands strengthening Malaysia’s standing as a safe and welcoming destination for tourism

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 October 2025 – Two leading Malaysian brands with global impact, IGL Coatings and AirAsia Ride, have come together in a groundbreaking collaboration to enhance road safety and driving comfort for ride-hailing drivers and passengers across Malaysia. Through this initiative, over 400 AirAsia Ride drivers across Klang Valley, Johor and Penang will benefit from IGL latest technology.

The programme includes a total of 120 AirAsia Ride drivers who will be the first to experience the IGL Coatings’ newly launched hydrophobic windscreen coating which enhances water repellency and significantly improves vision clarity on the roads. While it further extends to an additional 300 DIY IGL Window Kits for distribution across Malaysia specially for AirAsia Ride drivers, customers and users. This joint-effort supports not only local drivers but also the millions of daily passengers and tourists using e-hailing to move around Malaysia’s urban and intercity corridors.

AirAsia Ride is the first Malaysian ride-hailing platform to integrate IGL Coatings’ graphene-based visibility technology into its fleet, setting a new milestone in everyday road safety innovation. The cutting-edge coating enhances glass clarity during heavy rain and night driving, enabling drivers to maintain better vision and control, while offering passengers a smoother, more secure ride.

As Malaysia anticipates an increase in domestic and international visitors, IGL Coatings and AirAsia Ride are aligning their efforts with the nation’s tourism agenda to ensure safer and more comfortable journeys for Malaysians and tourists, especially ahead of the coming monsoon season.

A Joint Force of Local and Global Champions

The collaboration marks the coming together of AirAsia Ride, a growing mobility platform recognized throughout Southeast Asia, and IGL Coatings, a Malaysian nanotechnology leader whose sustainable innovations are now exported to over 50 countries.

Ramanathan A. M. N. Thiagarajan, CFO of AirAsia MOVE, Suruban Jayacumaran, Head of Rides (Operations) of AirAsia Ride, Keong Chun Chieh, Founder of IGL Coatings, and Fiona Chin, Co-Founder of IGL Coatings officially flagged off the AirAsia Ride convoy at SetiaWalk, Puchong. The fleet of drivers, newly protected by IGL’s professional graphene-based windscreen glass coating, represents the first wave of this nationwide initiative to enhance road visibility and passenger safety.

Ramanathan A. M. N. Thiagarajan, CFO of AirAsia MOVE said, “We’re grateful for IGL Coatings’ support in bringing this technology to our drivers. This partnership aligns perfectly with our commitment to empower our driver community and deliver the best ride experience for our passengers, especially as the majority of AirAsia Ride users, being part of the AirAsia MOVE OTA ecosystem, are travellers on airport transfers who prioritize comfort and safety throughout their journeys.”

Innovative Technology with a Human Purpose

The benefits of the coating go beyond just visibility. Drivers can experience less fatigue with clearer visions over long shifts with heavy downpours, especially under Malaysia’s tropical climate conditions. Fewer mechanical demands also mean lower maintenance costs and a smaller environmental footprint.

We see technology as a means to enhance lives,” said Keong Chun Chieh, Founder of IGL Coatings, “From protecting cars and surfaces to now protecting people on the road, this partnership is a meaningful step towards safer roads and a stronger sense of care for those who drive our cities forward.

Keong observed that many e-hailing drivers struggled with limited visibility during Malaysia’s frequent heavy rains. Recognising that a simple solution could make a major difference, this insight sparked a partnership between IGL Coatings and AirAsia Ride to launch this safety-focused initiative.

Together, both brands share the belief that improving safety standards for everyday drivers contributes to a more responsible and sustainable mobility ecosystem in Malaysia.
